The Giraffes

Welcome Giraffes and Parents!
We are off to a great school year thus far, and our class has chosen to be called the
"Giraffes" by a team vote. If you have any Giraffe-related items that you would be
willing to share with our class [erasers, pencils, posters, etc.] just send a note with
your child and let me know!
Our students are working hard in Math on recognizing, adding and exchanging coins,
as well as telling time using a standard analog clock. Any practice you can offer your
child at home would be greatly appreciated and will boost your child's confidence
level in this skill.
Our students are also working on making their AR goal by reading their library
books and taking comprehension quizzes on them to earn points. If everyone meets
their goal, we will gave a popcorn and movie party!
We are going to the school farm on October 13th. If you would like to come and be a
part of this exciting day, we would love for you to do so. You are welcome to follow
our buses that day out to the school farm, and spend the day with the Giraffes as we
learn all about animals and where our food comes from. Please call 451-8650 if you
would like to help us that day!
In Science we are learning about the body systems, specifically the circulatory
system, respiratory system, muscular system and skeletal system. If you have any
resources you would be willing to share with our class relating to these body
systems, please let us know. We are particularly looking for x-rays, models of the
body, etc. Thanks so much!
In Social Studies, we are traveling through the states in the Northeast Region. Wow,
there are a lot of them, and some of them are very small! But we are learning about
their populations, capitals, the bodies of water and rivers in them and around them,
as well as their climates. We have previously been working on reading a map and
using a compass rose to indicate direction.
In Life Skills, we have been learning about dangers and what to do if we are at home
and an emergency occurs. We went to
http://www.dangerrangers.com/kidsclub_confirm.php and discovered many
things to look out for and what we should do if we find a dangerous situation. We are
also looking at how to keep ourselves healthy by making good food choices, and
taking good care of our bodies each day.
We are working hard toward our IEP goals, and as giraffes do, we are stretching
ourselves and reaching high toward our goals! Thank you for all your support!
Most sincerely,
Ms. Bellairs and the Giraffes.
